Forage Balancer® – Weaner contributes to a 200g+ increase in calves ADG post weaning compared to grass.

And that means more milk. NZ studies backed by numerous international trials show that for every extra gram of average daily gain (ADG), your heifer has the potential to produce an extra 3.69 litres of milk in her first lactation. The average results in 11 international trials showed that an increase in average daily gain of 220g as a calf, produced an extra 811 litres of milk in their first lactation.

Forage Balancer® – Weaner

Young ruminants need time and the correct nutrition in order to fully develop their immune and digestive system.

Depending on the forage and the time of year it is often low in energy, deficient in critical nutrients or too high in others.

These imbalances make it hard for the rumen to operate efficiently meaning your animals cannot extract the feed potential from that forage. In addition these imbalances can contribute to major health issues such as scours, bloat, staggers, nitrate toxicity and lameness for example.

Forage Balancer® – Weaner helps tip the balance in your favour allowing healthier rumen function which flows on to less stress, greater health and productivity in your animals.

Forage Balancer® – Weaner

Weaning checks occur for a number of reasons

  • Coccidiosis

Removing meal leaves calves exposed to coccidial challenge. Forage Balancer® -Weaner provides a daily dose of Decoquinate.

  • Vitamin B1 deficiency

Feed changes can disrupt the normal production of B1 by rumen microbes leading to a condition called polioencephalopathy. Forage Balancer® - Weaner provides a daily dose of Vit B1 (Thiamine).

  • Protein overload

Weaning from meal onto high protein spring pasture can challenge a young fragile rumen. Forage Balancer® - Weaner provides a daily dose of soluble carbohydrate to balance high protein pasture.

  • Macro imbalance

Spring pasture alone will not meet the daily requirements for key macro minerals like Calcium, Magnesium, Sodium and Phosphorus. Forage Balancer® - Weaner provides a daily dose of key macro minerals.

  • Trace Element deficiency

Pasture often has a poor balance of the essential trace elements need for immune system development and overall health and performance. Forage Balancer® - Weaner provides a daily dose of essential trace elements.

  • Vitamin deficiency

Pasture imbalances can inhibit the availability of key vitamins needed to support health and performance. Forage Balancer® - Weaner provides a daily dose of key vitamins to support health and performance.

FAQs

Why do I need to support my young stock?

Your young stock are the future profit drivers of your business and ensuring they maintain a steady growth pattern and remain healthy is critical to their lifetime performance. Pasture alone does not meet their nutrient requirements and this can lead to poor performance, ill health, poor immune system development, poor rumen development.

What production issues does Forage Balancer® - Weaner help with?

An imbalanced pasture diet can contribute to production issues like sub-clinical bloat, nutritional scours, staggers and general ill thrift or poor performance.

The combination of carbohydrate, minerals, trace elements and vitamins help to avoid these production issues.

Why choose a loose lick?

Loose licks are a simple and cost effective way to help balance your pasture and ensure you are giving your young stock the greatest chance at optimal health and performance.

Loose licks are more cost effective than blocks and are an easier way to manage intake across a mob.

How do I ensure all animals get it?

It’s all about the feed face - the longer the trough the better. Try and provide 40cm of feed face per calf or 15cm per lamb.

Will it matter if I'm already feeding other minerals?

Forage Balancer uses high quality raw materials and is formulated to ensure its safety, but we recommend you discuss with your Vet or call your Ruminate Territory Manager first.

It’s so easy to use.

Simply pour the correct amount into a long open trough. You can use PK trailers, culvert pipes cut in half, make your own with timber or buy ready made troughs.

The key is to have lots of space for easy access, we recommend 30 – 50 cm for cattle and 5 – 10cm for sheep.

Ideally you would put out a daily dose but in situations where you're not there daily, like runoffs for example, you can put out 2 – 3 days at a time.
